Not the Minnesota Vikings. These are just some guys from Science Museum of Minnesota. One of our exhibit design team's objectives this round was to work out some of the features of the dig area that will be in the Prehistory section of the new gallery. The dig site will be a walk-in interactive space where children, adults, anyone, can experience what it's like to be an archaeologist. Yes, you can actually dig--and find things! The area is modeled on an 11,000 year-old mammoth kill-site in Caddo County, Oklahoma, one of the first digs (1962) conducted by the Museum of the Great Plains.
And finally, three shots of the Prehistory area under construction. To complete the scene, the east and south sides will be a giant photo mural (see top photo).
From time to time, we'll post info here about what's going on at the museum.
