Please be aware that the Museum of the Great Plains will be closed on Saturday, July 2! Elmer Thomas Park--where we're located--is the site of the annual Freedom Festival. The event is so popular that the museum is difficult to access, and our would-be visitors can't find parking! But if you're looking for a great way to spend a Saturday celebrating the Fourth of July, come on over. More information about the event is available here.
Today, being "the bomb" is a pretty good thing. But during the Cold War, "the bomb" filled people with terror! Join Cameron University, the Museum of the Great Plains, the City of Lawton, and the Friends of the Lawton Public Library, for the 2016 Oklahoma Chautauqua, "The Cold War: The Early Years," June 21-25. Iron curtains, McCarthyism, someone banging a shoe, what's it all about, you ask? It's free, that's what, and you'll have fun, and possibly learn something, too. Here's the official press release, and here's the workshop program.
Press release, workshop program, evening performances.... Don't you wish there was a single sheet of paper that contained all that information? There is, here! Join us--under a desk--won't you? It'll be a blast!
From time to time, we'll post info here about what's going-on at the museum.
