GOVERNANCE

Who runs the show

The Museum of the Great Plains Authority operates as a municipal/public trust with a 501(c)(3) status.  We're governed by a board.

The trust has thirteen seats. Directors serve three-year terms.  One-third (or so) of the seats are reelected or change annually.  Officers serve one-year terms.

The trustees are more delightful (less boring) than this makes them sound.  Good eggs, all of them.

The main building of the museum will close to the public after August 15, 2026, for extensive maintenance and repairs.  The projected completion date is early 2028.

The outdoor areas of the museum will remain open to the public Monday through Friday from 10:00 – 5:00, free of charge.

Support for the Museum of the Great Plains provided in part by the City of Lawton and the City of Lawton Hotel-Motel Tax Fund.
